Where I am is a project that investigates the relationship between a visitor and the unknown urban environment in which he moves, analysing the nature of the three-way links that are built between the visitor, the city and its inhabitants, the dialogue that is generated and the level of mutual understanding.
A series of random frames extracted at regular intervals from videos recorded while wandering aimlessly around the streets of Helsinki is altered through a process of selection, appropriation and de-objectification.
Objectively recorded memories fade and the real life experience dilutes.
The series ultimately reflects on the urban environment as seen through the eyes of a visitor, an alien, someone finding themselves at odds with an unknown cultural and environmental context and willing to explore, learn and understand.
